Do you have a children's book idea or manuscript and need advice about how to develop and publish it? Whether you are trying to send your story to publishers, find an agent or self-publish, it is always helpful to get advice and feedback from those with experience in the field.
I am offering a new package to support you as you revise and make publishing plans for your children's book. We will work together for six months, with you submitting work in advance for me to read, and then having an hour meeting to talk things through. As we go along, we can shift from idea generation and revision, to strategizing about publication options. You can think of me as your coach, editor, and accountability-buddy.
I've helped many people to develop their stories and get them published (both through traditional publishing and indie publishing - see my portfolio and view individual books to see my involvement). I love having an ongoing relationship and helping you to develop your craft alongside refining a particular project.
This costs $300/month, and gives you the same kind of support I received when doing my MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts. I came out of that program with the confidence and skills to write my picture book and to co-write two middle grade biographies. I trust that I can help you to follow your own path.
Feel free to schedule a 30-minute discovery call to see if this is a good fit for both of us. Reach out to make a time.
I will review manuscripts for picture books or portions of novels for middle grade or YA readers and give you my thoughts on how I see your manuscript working in terms of plot, narrative voice, character, pacing, and anything else I note. I know how important it is for creative people to get positive feedback, so while being honest, I will be careful to highlight what I think is working as well as where I would suggest development.
For a $450 flat fee, I will read your submission in advance (details below), and then meet with you for an hour to ask you questions and give my feedback. You will also get written notes and comments on your manuscript.
You can submit a picture book manuscript of up to 2,000 words. For middle grade or young adult fiction, reach out and we can discuss what you submit. Email me to learn more.
I am developing an online community to support children's book creators - especially people developing community-based grassroots children's books. This includes the "Create Your Children's Book" cohort that launched in January 2024. Have a look at the Manzanita Children's Book Community to learn more. And reach out if you are interested in participating.
